COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course is designed to develop all four language skills – reading, writing, speaking, and listening – in Modern Hebrew while aligning with the ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines.
During the semester, students will acquire knowledge of grammar using experiential learning that interactively emphasizes everyday life situations. Using learner-centered pedagogy will enable students to reinforce and internalize the Hebrew language spontaneously and become independent users of the language.
The course will emphasize the diverse aspects of the Hebrew and Israeli cultures. The exposure to Israeli art, music, and film will provide the students with a deeper knowledge of the language as well as foster in them an appreciation for the rich history of Hebrew.
Like Hebrew 101, this course carries 1.5 academic credits, reflecting a pedagogical approach that views language acquisition as an intensive, practice-based process grounded in real-world communication. Accordingly, the course emphasizes presentation-based and oral tasks that require students to engage in meaningful everyday language use and develop confidence in active spoken Hebrew.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
By the end of the course, students will be able to accomplish the following written tasks:

Describe personal information connected to units three and four (home, food) and share it orally with their peers.

Engage in a conversation using commonly used expressions.

Create different types of texts, such as messages, descriptions, comparisons, and brief narratives, that incorporate the content area of the learning units.

Write a page in the present tense.

Attendance and Participation (15%)
Full and timely attendance, preparation, and active participation in every class are expected. Language learning is an ongoing, cumulative process; therefore, attendance and active participation are required. Feel free to ask questions and make mistakes.

Homework (15%)
Homework will be given at the end of each lesson and is mandatory. Please make sure to complete the assignments in the workbook before class on the day they are due. Workbooks will be collected periodically during class to ensure you stay on top of your homework assignments. When you complete the homework on Quizlet, please practice and send only your final, best version.
Quizzes (35%)
There will be four quizzes over the semester. Each quiz will include vocabulary from the textbook. The final grade will be based only on the top three written quizzes (out of four).
Final Project (10%)
Final exam (25%)
The final exam will include the materials learned throughout the semester.

LANGUAGE TUTORING
The Blume Center is offering extra help with your language course; Reserve time with a peer tutor. Sessions can be 30-60 minutes long. The center is located in room 119, Raether LITC. Full and timely attendance, preparation, and participation in every class are expected. Learning a new culture is a complex process that requires intention and a willingness to contain different values and worldviews; therefore, attendance and active participation are required. Failure to attend more than three lessons without a justifiable reason will lead to a letter drop in your final grade. You'll be considered absent if you are more than 15 minutes late without a legitimate reason. If a student must miss class for any reason, they must inform the mentor before class. Please check your email before class for any last-minute changes.
