Global Health Humanities (Fall 2024)

Welcome to the Introduction to Global Health Humanities! This emergent field continually evolves as we navigate changing circumstances in local, national, and global contexts. Trinity College--our students, staff, faculty, and residents/employees in our neighboring communities are all impacted. As you know, nothing happens in a vacuum. The state of global health overlaps with and highlights other issues, such as unequal access to healthcare, food insecurity, economic uncertainty, immigration debates, post-covid intensification of class, regional, racial, and political divisions across the U.S., ongoing anti-LGBTQ+ legislation, and the political and cultural attacks on women’s reproductive rights. We are all impacted by ongoing wars and violence, and the health crises they produce, as well as the destabilization created by climate change and serious environmental disasters worldwide. During our time together in this course, we will examine how different understandings of health/wellness not only shape societal beliefs, but also translate into healthcare practices and policies that impact individuals and communities, locally, nationally, and globally.
